Got any little scientists running around at home? Wow them with this cool science experiment - a travelling rainbow with Bounty Paper Towels. It’s a super simple science experiment for kids (and adults!)….the best part is you probably already have most of the supplies at home!

What You’ll Need:

7 water glasses or clear plastic cups
Bounty Paper Towels
Food coloring (red, blue, and yellow)

Let’s Roll!

  1. To start your rainbow science experiment, first line up your clear cups. In the first, third, fifth, and seventh cups, add water so they’re a little more than half full.

  2. Prep your Bounty Paper Towels by folding each sheet in thirds lengthwise–you’ll need six of these. Place to the side while we prep the colors.
  3. Add 5 drops of red coloring to the first cup and seventh cup.
  4. Add 5 drops of yellow coloring to the third cup.

  5. Add 5 drops of blue coloring to the fifth cup.
  6. Ready for the fun part? Grab your paper towels and bend in half (think rainbow shape). Stick one end in the red water, the other end in the empty cup next to it.

  7. Next, grab another paper towel and place the end in that same empty cup, then the other end in the yellow water. Continue this process so all cups are connected in this way.
You might need to trim the ends so there’s not too much excess.
  8. Finally, grab a snack and watch the magic unfold! The liquid will be absorbed by Bounty and travel into the empty glasses. It could take up to 1-2 hours.
If you aren’t seeing much movement, you might need to top up the starter water cups a little more.

How does it work?

Bounty’s sponge-like texture absorbs the water from each jar and when the water meets each other in the middle, the color starts to blend creating your rainbow!

Looks easy enough, right? It is! Mesmerize the whole family with this easy at-home science experiment. Give it a go and don’t forget to send us your pictures @BountyPaperTowels on social media!
