At Home with Bounty

You can make your own window cleaning solution using things you regularly have on hand at home. You'll save a lot of money by doing so. These instructions will show you how to make a window cleaner that is vinegar-based but doesn't smell like vinegar.

What You'll Need:

• A spray bottle (preferably one that is calibrated)
• Water
• A one gallon container of white vinegar
• Bounty paper towels
• Essential oil (whatever fragrance appeals to you)
• A tape measure or ruler
• A permanent marker
• A funnel

Instructions:

1. Take the spray bottle, and if it isn't calibrated already, measure the full height of the bottle. Divide the measurement you got for the height of the bottle by four. Using your permanent marker and the ruler or tape measure, place a mark at every interval that is equal to 1/4 the height of the bottle. These numbers will help you know exactly how much vinegar and water to add to the bottle to make your spray.
2. Allow the ink to dry fully before you go to pour the water and vinegar into the bottle. If the ink isn't fully dry, you may wind up smearing your markings.
3. Take a funnel and put it into the opening of the spray bottle.
4. Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle. If you want a stronger window cleaner, fill the bottle with vinegar to the third line that indicates the 3/4 mark. If you want a weaker solution, only fill the bottle to the half-way point with vinegar.
5. Fill the rest of your bottle with water.
6. To mask some of the vinegar odor, you can put 3 to 4 drops of essential oil in the bottle. You can adjust this until you get the amount of fragrance that appeals to you.
7. Put the sprayer back into the bottle and tighten it to close. Make sure that you also adjust the sprayer nozzle so it is off.
8. Shake the bottle to mix the vinegar, water, and essential oil together to create your own custom window cleaner.
9. Test your new window cleaning solution by spraying it on a window or mirror, and wiping the surface clean with a Bounty paper towel.
