At Home with Bounty

Many children enjoy playing with a pet rock during the summer months. There are many summer projects for kids that can include your child's pet rock. One of the first projects your child should do is to make his or her pet rock a place to sleep. Adult supervision required.

What You'll Need:

• Bounty paper towels
• A shoe box
• Spray paint
• A face mask
• Stencils
• Craft paint
• Cotton filling
• A small beanbag
• A piece of felt

Instructions:

1. Place Bounty paper towels on your outdoor workspace. It is important to do this project outside since you are using spray paint. If you want to move the project indoors after the spray paint dries, you can do so.
2. Put the shoebox on the Bounty paper towels. You won't need the top to the shoebox for this project, so you can discard it.
3. Spray-paint the inside of the shoe box with any color spray paint you choose. Wear a face mask to avoid inhaling any fumes and tell children to stand back. Allow the paint to dry before touching the inside of the box.
4. Turn the shoe box over so you can paint the outside of it. Use a different color than you used on the inside of the box. Allow the shoe box to dry thoroughly before continuing the project.
5. Turn the shoe box upright so that you can see inside of the box. Stencil your pet rock's name on one of the long sides of the shoe box. You can either fill in or outline the letters with craft paint.
6. Use stencils to decorate the remaining outside portions of the box. Allow the shoebox to dry before continuing.
7. Fill the inside of the shoe box halfway with cotton filling. This will be your pet rock's bed.
8. Place the small beanbag at one end of the shoe box. This is your pet rock's pillow.
9. Lay a piece of felt in the box. This is your pet rock's blanket.
10. Tuck your pet rock into the bed for some rest after a day of helping you finish summer projects for kids.
