At Home with Bounty

Patriot Day activities will be great for young kids to celebrate firefighters, who help keep us safe. The kids will have fun making cards for the local fire department, and they can deliver them in person, if possible. The kids will enjoy pasting, drawing, and cutting for this project. You will need a few supplies that you can buy at a hobby shop. You can find the picture you need in magazines or online sources. Adult supervision required.

What You'll Need:

• White square envelopes for mailing
• White construction paper
• Marking pens in red and blue
• Craft glue
• A ruler
• A pencil
• A stencil with letters
• Small American flags
• Pictures of firefighters
• Bounty paper towels

Instructions:

1. Most Patriot Day activities and projects will need a work space and lots of Bounty paper towels around to clean up.
2. Before starting the project, have the kids bring in a picture of a firefighter. The picture should be small enough to fit a card.
3. Measure and cut a piece of white construction paper double the size of the envelope--lengthwise. Fold the card over in half and make sure it fits in the envelope.
4. Glue the picture of the firefighter on the front of the card. Glue a small flag in each corner of the card.
5. Open the card to the inside blank side and measure two straight lines on the card, about 1.5" apart.
6. Using the stencil, spell out "we appreciate all you do."
7. Go over the letters with red and blue marking pens.
8. Clean any mess with Bounty paper towels.
