At Home with Bounty

Create Ice Age crafts that feature your favorite characters, and make a cool diorama based on your favorite chilly movie! Reuse an old shoe box as a stage for your very own prehistoric story. Create magnificent mammoths, super sabertooths, slow sloths, and more using clay, glue, and other basic arts and crafts materials. Adult supervision required.

What You'll Need:

• A shoe box (without the lid)
• Safety scissors
• Tempera paint
• Paintbrushes
• Cotton balls
• Modeling clay
• Clear-drying school glue
• A pencil
• Bounty paper towels for cleanup

Instructions:

1. Draw the background for your diorama on the back, sides, and bottom of the shoe box. Use the pencil to make basic shapes and lines. For example, draw a curved line around the middle section of the back to create a mountainous horizon line. Avoid drawing intricate or small designs--these will get lost during the painting step.
2. Paint the entire inside of the shoe box in icy shades of blue and white. Make a bold blue sky (don't forget the top inside of the box), white mountains or ground, or even add a white-blue ocean. Set the box aside to dry for at least two hours.
3. Ice Age crafts need to include your favorite characters from the movie. Use the modeling clay to make mammoths, sloths, and more. Separate the clay into pieces. Roll a gumball-sized piece into a sphere to make a sloth body or a larger piece into an oval for a mammoth. Add a smaller ball as a head and cylinders as legs. Use dabs of glue to secure the pieces together if needed. Finish each animal by making a friendly face. Use tiny pieces of colorful clay to create eyes, a nose, and a mouth, or paint these on with a fine-tipped paintbrush.
4. Create a snowy scene in your diorama. Spread out cotton balls, making them more flat than round. Glue the spread cotton on the bottom of the shoe box.
5. Place your animal characters in the snow to finish the craft.
