At Home with Bounty

Recycle a few items to create a centerpiece of graduation party decorations. Arranging them by varying height creates a perspective of depth and space. Placing pictures, guest books, or even appetizers atop abstract mortarboards gives the party a focal point to honor the grad. Adult supervision required.

What You"ll Need:

• Black mat board
• Cylinder containers
• Black craft paint or spray paint
• Hot glue
• A hot glue gun
• A straight-edge knife
• A ruler
• A heavy book
• Ribbon in school colors
• Bounty paper towels for cleanup

Instructions:

1. Paint the cylinder black and let the paint dry.
2. Measure the height of the clean containers.
3. Starting in the corner of the mat board, measure out a square using the dimension from the can.
4. Using the ruler as a guide, carefully cut the mat board with the knife for your graduation party decorations.
5. Place the square flat on table and find the center using your ruler. Mark it lightly and then draw a line using the ruler as a guide. Quarter-turn the square and repeat. There should be four equal squares outlined to the underside of the hat.
6. Line up the cylinder so the cross-point is in the center, and trace around it with a pencil.
7. Remove the cylinder and trace with glue over the penciled circle. Place the cylinder on the glue then put a book on top of the cylinder to dry.
8. Flip the hat right-side up and adhere ribbon (tassel) at an angle from the middle of the mortarboard.
9. Repeat the process with different sizes to create height and depth for a stunning graduation party decoration.
