At Home with Bounty

Most kids will have a piece or two of fruit if it has been cut to look like a creepy creatures. Here's a great way to take a couple of average-looking melons and transform them into melon crafts that look like monsters! Adult supervision required.

What You'll Need:

• Whole cantaloupe, honey dew, or watermelon (small and round)
• A metal skewer (for making holes)
• Bounty paper towels
• Toothpicks
• Red grapes
• Strawberries
• Raisins
• Oranges
• Red and black licorice
• A knife

Instructions:

1. Wash and dry off the melons you are using with a Bounty paper towel.
2. On a flat workspace, lay out all the things you'll need to make these scary monster melon crafts.
3. With a metal skewer (or anything that's pointy) make two small holes on the side of the melon where you want the monster's ears to go. Most toothpicks won't go through the hard rind of a melon so it helps to start the hole with something sharp first. An adult should perform this step.
4. Push a toothpick through a grape, then push the toothpick all the way into the hole you have started to attach the grape to the side of the melon. You should no longer see the toothpick.
5. Repeat on the other side so you have two grape ears.
6. Make other holes in the melon for your eyes and nose.
7. Use a large strawberry to create your nose.
8. For the eyes, you may have to thread two or three raisins on a toothpick before you stick it in the melon, particularly if they are small.
9. For eyelashes, alternate red and black pieces of licorice (cutting them into smaller pieces if necessary), and attach them above your raisin eyes. It's okay if the licorice pieces are crooked. You want your melon monster to have a scary look!
10. Cut an orange in half. This will be your mouth.
11. Make two holes on either side of the melon where you want your mouth to be.
12. Push two toothpicks on either side of the orange to hold it in place.
13. Repeat these steps with a variety of melons.
14. When you are finished decorating, cut up your melon so that everyone has a bite of some of your monster's frightening features!
